On 15th March, 1916, 20th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the front line at Carency, near Souchez just to the north of Arras. They were relieved from these positions on 21st March, 1916. 4 men were killed during this period in the trenches, including Henry Williams on 21st March. The battalion diary makes no mention of his death but it was probably the result of shell fire, which accounted for 60% of all casualties.
